What is the Future Looking Like For Argentina?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 5 days then you probably already know that it is rumored that a good number of key players for Argentina are set to retire from their International team following their Copa America final loss to Chile for the second straight year. Those players set to retire are:

Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Javier Mascherano (Barcelona)
Sergio kun Aguero (Manchester City)
Ezequiel Pocho Lavezzi (Hebei)
Angel Di Maria (PSG)
Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli—set to leave as well)
Lucas Biglia (Lazio)
Sergio Romero (Manchester Utd.)

So who does that leave for Argentina…well here’s a few:

Paulo Dybala (Juventus)
Carlos Teves (Juventus)
Ever Banega (Sevilla)
Enzo Perez (Valencia)
Ezequiel Garay (Zenit)
Angel Correa (Atletico de Madrid)
Erik Coco Lamela (Tottenham)

It has been 23 years now since Argentina has won a title. They have suffered numerous major losses the past years, but this one seems to be the last one for Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano. As of now, I can only confirm that Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano are the only Argentina players that will no longer play for La Albiceleste. Although Sergio Romero said that if Lionel Messi leaves he will no longer continue, but nothing has been confirmed yet. In a post-match interview Aguero said that a few other players are considering walking away from Argentina including himself. I believe that these players are protesting against their own country as bad as that sounds. The AFA itself is a mess right now, they haven’t had a president since 2014. Also, I think Messi & Co. feel really unsupported by their own management following the major losses these past years. That being said Martino and his squad better get it together before September 1st if they even want a slight chance of Lionel Messi and his team back. I mean if Diego Maradona can come back after retiring maybe Messi and the rest of them can too. Only time will tell what the future hold for La Albiceleste let’s just hope it’s a happy ending for all. Let me know what you think about all of this in the comment section.
