With the Olympics fast approaching and the USWNT being the only team representing the USA in soccer this year there is a lot of pressure for them to bring home the gold. Find out who I think are four key players that will help the World Cup champs achieve that goal…pun intended
- Mallory Pugh, Forward
Being only 18 years old and just graduated high school the now UCLA Bruin, Mallory Pugh will be a huge asset to the USWNT during the Olympics. As a starter or a super sub Mal has the ability to change the game in a matter of seconds. She can find the back of the net from a cross, or give perfect crosses a majority of the time that lead to goals. If you know Mallory, you know that she always gives 110% percent and nothing less. So, with her determination and impeccable skills she is definitely someone to watch out for this summer.
- Crystal Dunn, Forward
Not being called up for the World Cup, the former UNC Tar heel and now Washington Spirit put in an immense amount of work during the Victory Tour scoring goal after goal taking the spotlight away from Carli Lloyd, which got her noticed by the public eye. Crystal can pretty much score from anywhere on the field from any cross, or can give an impressive cross into the box. Mallory and Crystal’s chemistry together is definitely a threat for the Olympics.
- Julie Johnston, Defender
Julie Johnston has appeared in ONE World Cup for the USWNT, and during that World Cup she became a fan favorite. Solid defending on her half as well as getting up top for a goal and crossing? What else do you need from a defender. She’s always very consistent which is great. Julie Johnston will be an amazing asset for team USA this summer.
- Carli Lloyd, Midfielder
Carli Lloyd’s name was huge in the World Cup, being named captain, scoring a goal in almost if not every game, and who can forget that half field screamer she scored? Awarded the Golden Ball and Golden Boot, Carli Lloyd made a name for herself last summer. A powerful offensive player holding it down in the midfield, solid passing with consistency she is definitely a key player for the USWNT.
